Two types of brake pads are used in the motorbike sector: organic brake pads and sintered metal pads. These differ in terms of application, effect, wear and, last but not least, cost.

Which brake pads should you fit now?

If you are satisfied with your organic brake pads so far, there is actually no reason to replace them with sintered metal brake pads, to replace them with sintered metal brake pads. However, if you are rather sporty, sometimes do massive braking from high speed and would welcome a little more bite on the brake lever, you should definitely give sintered metal brake pads a try. As a general rule, however, any intervention in the braking system has a not insignificant effect on the road safety of the vehicle. Therefore, you should always check which brake pads are approved for your motorbike.

Organic brake pads

  • Standard brake pads
  • Materials: glass, rubber, carbon and other fibres
  • For uncomplicated braking behaviour even for inexperienced motorcyclists
  • Operating temperatures up to 800 °C
  • Less wear on the brake disc

Sintered metal brake pads

  • High metal content
  • Materials: steel, copper, brass
  • Operating temperatures up to 800 °C
  • Low wear of the brake disc
  • Less tractive force required due to high coefficient of friction
  • Long service life with constant brake quality

Important! All brake pads must be run in carefully. It is best to brake several times with light pressure and then let the brakes cool down each time. The running-in time depends on the compound. Organic pads must be run in longer than sintered pads.
