The engine piston is a central component in the combustion engine of a motorbike. It moves up and down in the cylinder and converts the combustion energy generated into mechanical work.
This consists of a solid metal block, usually made of an aluminium alloy. It is fitted with piston rings that provide an effective seal for the cylinder and manage the pressure and heat during the combustion process.
The piston is connected to the crankshaft via the connecting rod and transmits the force exerted on it to the crankshaft to produce the rotational motion of the engine. Proper fit, tuning and maintenance of the piston are critical to the engine's performance, durability and efficiency.
